Healthy New Year!

Happy New Year! What a joy and a blessing to have this pristine new year — 365 days– to rejoice and live well! I wish all the best to you and your loved ones.

I am a firm believer in the guidance from Proverb 27 where Solomon writes “as a (wo)man thinketh, so is (s)he.” Your thoughts– your attitude– really truly affects everything in your life from your health to your satisfaction with your job to the way you are treated by your family members. This is a good time of the year to have a “check up from the neck up” as motivator Zig Ziglar refers to the time we spend in inventorying our beliefs and values.

Like I have, do you ever state to yourself that you are committed to losing weight or getting more exercise, and the next thing you know you are making a sneak trip to the kitchen to procure another cookie and back to the couch to watch a second or third TV show? It’s a good time to examine those supposed commitments. I’ve put together a weekly, free ezine that will help you set your goals, strategize and overcome obstacles on the way to achieving what it is that you want to achieve during this coming year. (Oh, you don’t have to start the process in early January– it’s available for a year of weekly emails at any time you decide that you want to start).

I’m really excited about the process of achieving my dreams over this coming yearand I’d be thrilled to have you along! Just sign up below:

Lemons
Here is another amazingly simple natural remedy for headaches or migraines that occur in the forehead area (third eye).

Simply take an organic lemon and about at its midsection, remove a bandaid size of skin, leaving on a postage-stamp size bit of juicy lemon flesh. Hold the lemon bandaid on the headachey area for about 5-7 minutes. Repeat, if necessary, with a fresh lemon bandaid.

Amazing what our Creator produces for us…

Simple Sips to deal with Arthritis

LimesArthritis is a bothersome ailment.  Fortunately a ‘living diet’ (raw fruits and vegetables) is a very effective means of turning this joint affliction around.

Here is a simple remedy using lime juice (from Wikipedia):

The primary cause of some forms of arthritis is uric acid, and because lime is a solvent of uric acid it can be helpful in preventing the aches and pains of arthritis. The juice of one lime mixed with water should be drank once a day. It is best to drink the solution in the morning.

And, for sore throat (from Cambodia):

A whole lime is squeezed into a small bowl or cup. Water is then added, tripling the amount of liquid. A sweetener (I would suggest Stevia) and a pinch of salt is added to the drink. It is normally sipped, using a spoon, so that the liquid goes down the throat slowly. It can be taken as needed, as long as the sore throat is still present. It also doesn’t taste half bad.

“Russian Penicillin”– a great raw remedy

matrioskasWe have some houseguests who are part of a health ministry/life consultancy.  I’ve been suffering with the cold-flu of my life and they reminded me of this great old-time remedy:

Natural Cold and Flu Tonic Recipe

  • 4 ounces of fresh squeezed organic lemon juice [2 medium to large lemons]
  • 4 to 6 ounces of Raw Honey (Honey that has not been heated)
  • 1 Whole organic onion (peeled)
  • 1 Whole fresh organic garlic clove (peeled)
  • Cayenne pepper to taste or amount you can handle (pinch or 2)

Put all ingredients in VitaMix cannister.  Blend into thick liquid.

Directions: Use at the first sign of a cold.  Keep the Natural Tonic in a glass jar in the refrigerator. Take at least 1 tablespoon every 3 to 4 hours during your cold.

Lemons, onions, and garlic are all “natural antibiotics” which restore and maintain your natural immunity.  The raw honey also has healing qualities and will sweeten this pretty potent concoction. The cayenne pepper helps you break up any mucous in your chest.  I was also reminded that ‘good remedies’ are used like good food, only in moderation… don’t overdose on anything!

ADDED AFTER THE COLD: This Russian Penicillin makes a wonderful coleslaw dressing… just pour over grated cabbage and enjoy! (p.s.– you can grate your cabbage in the VitaMix in very quick time by adding 2 cups of cut up cabbage to the cannister and then filling the cannister up with cold water. Securely position the 2-part lid and turn up to 4 Variable Speed for about 15 seconds. Drain off the water and pour the grated cabbage into a bowl. Pour over the “Russian” dressing and voila! The Perfect Raw Salad!

Hot + Cold = Warm & Fuzzy

Filed under: Alternate Medicine, Health and Wellness, Rebounder — HealthiaCynthia @ 9:29 pm

When I was growing up (in the 50s and 60s)my mother had a massive tome she referred to as "the Doctor Book".  In it you could find all the necessary photos and illustrations to totally freak you out about that rash on the side of your leg, or about having sex… ever.  The word "graphic" was coined to describe this Doctor Book.

Besides the pictures of people with advanced syphilitic lesions and giant facial tumors, there were photos of women with in sauna boxes, or something like that– only their heads showed, the rest of the box encasing them like a body coffin.  I recall that these were examples of "hydrotherapy".

So, years later when I attended an Adventist Church-sponsored lecture on "hydrotherapy" I flashed in my mind back to the rather weird illustrations in my mother's Doctor Book.  I was amazed to find out that "hydrotherapy" simply meant using water– as fluid or ice– as a treatment for a variety of conditions or maladies.

For example:

For Pain: Freeze water in a styrofoam cup and peel the cup down so that you have a handheld block of ice that you apply in small, circular motions for 7 minutes (keep the ice going to prevent 'freezer burn') over the affected area.  After the 7 minutes, warm up the area by massaging gently with a couple of drops of pure essential oil (don't use anything that might create problems and don't put essential oils on sensitive tissues such as the eyes or genitals)in a carrier of virgin coconut oil (the kind you would cook with).  If the pain persists, then do another 7 minutes of icing and warm-up.  This is simple and amazingly effective… even for chronic pain, such as comes with fibromyalgia.

For Swelling/Sore Feet/Ankles: Have two basins of water, one very cold and one hot .  Neither should be so hot or cold that you can't stand it when you put your feet in (be kind to yourself!). Alternate putting both feet in each basin for about three minutes at a time.  Start with the hot bath and do 3-5- or 7 immersions, starting with the hot water and ending with the hot water.  Combined with good nutrition, using a slantboard, dry brushing , and rebounding (see below), swollen or sore ankles will soon return to normal.  Again, amazingly simple to do.  And accessible to most people.
