This book came out in the 80s and I finally read it!! (There is an updated version).
The author, John Robbins, was the heir to the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream chain (does it still exist?) but opted out of that to lead a life that honours the interconnectivity of life on our earth.
I’ve often heard the stats from Robbins’ book cited by my eco-conscious friends (and family members) over the years. Last summer I read “The China Study” and T. Colin Campbell also referred to Robbins’ works. This book is a classic in the field of awareness of our fragile earth and what we can do to live in a more mindful and sustaining way. Raw veganism is a good step. Vegans (or Robbins calls them “pure vegetarians”) free up an acre of land for growing people food that would ordinarily be used to graze cattle.
I love Robbins non-abrasive way of writing. I will be sure to read his more recent books.
And pretty nigh inseparable from a vegan (especially raw vegan) lifestyle is the machine– 10 appliances in 1– that can help heal and save your life:
