Blessings on another Hot July Day…

This morning I went over to feed the pets of a friend from Toastmasters. He's been "batching" while his wife is away for the past month, so I did a little clean-up as well. He had told me to eat whatever perishables there were in the fridge (they'll be back in two weeks) but when I perused it I decided that it would be best to find someone else who wanted some groceries. I fed the fish and the cat and started to leave. The screendoor wouldn't open... hard as I tried, and as many ways as I tried. I called the neighbor to see if he could assist, and he willingly said he would pop over (it was a very humbling situation!). Of course, no sooner had he volunteered to do that than the latch unstuck (or whatever) and I emerged. Well, I did get to meet him anyhow. Lovely fella, very German-- I will take my husband to meet him and they can yatter away auf Deutsch. I had to go to town to pick up a couple of binders for my biz. When I came out of the stationer's I spotted two young fellas (one with purple hair) in the Walmart parking lot and boldly called out, "Excuse me boys, do you know anybody who might need some groceries?" The purple-haired bloke said (with an Aussie accent): "Really? That's great! I have a baby at home and she'll just love this!" (something like that), and he looked thrilled, too, to be getting a mystery bag that included a half a piece of some deli meat, a clutch of asparagus (a little past fresh), 3/4 of a loaf of some sort of bread, 2 eggs, 2 or 3 scones, and a yellowish broccoli. I felt fabulous for 'gifting' him, with his amazing enthusiasm. Some women were smoking on a nearby bench and watching with smiles. It was altogether a lovely experience. This evening I noticed that there were several cherries ripe on the little tree in the front... it seems like the crows or raccoons (or neighbors?) have given us a 'pass' this year. I picked them to share with Ed when he comes back from Surrey where he sweetly drove the moving van with our son's family's furniture very early on this morning's ferry. He phoned to say he will be back on the last ferry tonight. I hope he gets a snooze on the boat.
