Dr. Jim Carey is a man on a mission. (let’s get a couple of things out of the way right off– no, not that Jim Carey– and no, not an MD but a doctor of computers…) Jim retired a few years ago and bought an RV so he could see the US. He enjoyed the experience but he also packed on a lot of pounds during a time of his life when it is expedient to be lighter and more active. So, he went looking for a way to get back into the shape he knew he needed to be in to take down his blood pressure and cholesterol levels. His sister encouraged him to try a calorie-restrictive vegetarian diet and he did take off 20 pounds, but then he plateau’d. It didn’t matter how many calories he took in or how much he exercised, he could not budge those remaining pounds. One day he ran across information about the Hippocrates Institute and Dr. Ann Wigmore’s raw living lifestyle. He went for the three month program offered there, and stayed on as a staff member and a passionate advocate of Dr. Ann’s wisdom and teachings.
Today Jim offers the most comprehensive compilation of Dr. Ann’s works, including redigitized videos of her early presentations, and a plethora of other materials, all organized into various study and/or user packages that appeal to anyone from the diligent raw foodist to the individual who would just like some excellent tips on how (and why) to get more raw living food into their family’s life. Jim Carey continues to carry the torch for Dr. Ann, someone he refers to as “the original Raw Diva”. This is Jim’s mission– to get Dr. Wigmore’s health message out there so others can benefit as he has.
Absolutely the best deal I have come across in ages online is Jim’s offer of the e-book, Raw Living Foods Lifestyle Recipes®, Supplement to The Handbook to Going Raw™, a 184-page raw food recipe ebook PLUS other bonses for ONLY $7 http://bit.ly/d4B2xE This extreme offer is available only until February 28 so you will want to go right here to order now before the price goes up again. It’s good every so often just to take a look at the makings of a very basic delicious, nutritious, satisfying green smoothie, such as the one that Jason quickly puts together in this video. There is nothing particularly difficult about it at all… stuff in lots of greens (I really favour Cilantro) and get creative with the fruit you use. The simpler you keep it the easier it usually is on your digestion.
In the following new video by raw foodist Frederic Patenaude he explains why he thinks that a 3-day (water) fast is the best way to get back on track when you have fallen off the wagon. He finds the short 3-day water fast to be great for:
- Going through a tough period of life when one has a lot on one’s mind (including handling difficult situations such as grief)
- Get back on track with raw vegan eating
- Improve digestion- Eliminate depression
- Eliminate short-term problems such as headaches, bad sleeping habits
NOTE:Frederic points out: “On the video I said that intermittent fasting extends life 40% more than calorie-restricted diets. I meant to say, extend the life more than on a 40% calorie-restricted diet. The studies I referred to can be found here and here.”
“If charcoal can whiten sugar and remove unwanted colors from a host of products, what can it do with badly stained teeth? As we read earlier, charcoal was prepared commercially as a tooth powder a hundred ago. For polishing and cleaning, there is nothing superior to charcoal. Just wet your toothbrush and dip it into a small glass jar of charcoal powder. Your toothbrush and your teeth will look black, but it rinses off. Although it is a little messy, it can remove tarter and plaque build-up. After a swish or three you will notice your teeth are definitely brighter. It also helps with bad breath. You will be able to taste the difference, and, I am told, it makes kisses sweeter” (p. 144).
I think this is pretty swanky– take a look:

*sorry for the “swanky” word… I know that dates me to the dark ages : p
I ran across this recipe on rawfreedomcommunity.com, posted by Wyjoz. I’ve made a few adjustments to hers, but am very grateful for the very wonderful chance she took in putting it together originally (from the photo) since she describes herself as “non-adventurous”– thanks Joz for letting go and letting your intuitive creativity take over!
1 1/2 c grated Jicama *** if it’s too ‘juicy’ strain some of the liquid off or use pulp after juicing*
1 Granny Smith Apple peeled
2 c. Almonds soaked/dehydrated
4 T Chia seed
1/4 c Agave (or other sweetener of choice– I’m going to use raw honey)
1 tsp Vanilla
1 Lemonjuiceandzest
1/2 c Poppyseeds
Process all the above in the VitaMix until like a dry cake batter, with almonds finely ground– might have been a good idea to grind the almonds and chia seeds up in advance of making the cake batter (yes, definitely– will do that!)
Mold in a heart-shaped pan lined with plastic wrap?? (or other shape of container as desired)
Remove the cake from pan and frost.
White Icing: (Jaz writes: “THIS IS SO LIKE ‘Costco’ white frosting!”)
1 c solid Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (not melted)
Beat up and
Add 1/4 c agave (or other sweetener of choice)
Juice of 1/2 lemon (more if desired, and add zest if you want a really lemony effect)
Whip again. Spread quickly as it starts to melt a little.Sprinkle Poppy Seeds on sides or designs if you make a different shape.
Top with Lemon zest curls or slices.
Refrigerate for an hour or so. Serve at room temperature! Enjoy with a Sweetie!
I’m not going to harp here (too much) about the importance of exercise. You can find the information all over the internet. I do find it significant, however, to note that people who exercise moderately in mid-life have a 39% rate of avoiding mild cognitive loss, while people who don’t start exercising until their later years actually have 32% greater potential NOT to develop senility than their peers who are sedentary… isn’t that hopeful? Even introducing exercise (yoga, walking, swimming, bike-riding, dancing) into the life of someone who already has a mild cognitive disorder (eg., memory loss) can result in improvements in cognitive ability.

Here is a list of reasons to exercise (as per Dr. Mercola):
I am on Day#4 of a 28-day raw food cleanse currently at Raw Food Rehab, a warm raw foodie community. Discussions of many sorts ensue. Some folks have been talking about colonics and enemas. I flashed on a presentation we had from a massage therapist years ago when I worked with women in a group. The presenter talked about how one can do a self-massage of the abdomen and quickly relieve constipation. I am someone who is keen on non-invasive, body-friendly healing and support techniques. Perhaps there are other folks out there who are also not that nutty about the invasiveness of enemas and colonics? Here is a pretty good demo on youtube. The nice thing about this kind of self-massage is that you can also help to drain lymph and firm up your abdominals, encouraging good, life-long peristalsis. Who wouldn’t want that? Bonus.
