Valentine’s Day Matters– This is Partly Why

If you are considering chocolate for your sweetie at Valentine’s Day, I suggest you take a good look at this documentary and then I’m willing to bet you will opt for Free Trade chocolate (and RugMark Carpets).

As you will see in the shocking video, a good chunk of the world’s cocoa comes from the Ivory Coast.  Labor costs and other costs are LOW but the farmers there get only a fraction of what other cocoa-growing farmers get for their crops in other countries.  That is, until recently– now Ivory Coast farmers are getting a boost, (really minimal) but it will be more, now, than farmers in Ghana receive, so the expectation is that Ghanaian cocoa will flood the market (be smuggled in) so the farmers of that nearby country can get in on the slight increase.  Go here to read more about the Background of Fair Trade in the Cocoa biz. What role and responsibilities do you think the big multi-national chocolate distributors and manufacturers have in this dire situation? (Think: Cargill, Nestles, Fry’s, Cadbury, etc.)  I’m not sure how you feel, but I DEFINITELY am becoming more mindful of what I purchase to eat these days…and what I purchase for my friends and loved ones as gifts. Happy Valentine’s Day!

28-Day Raw Food Cleanse starts Monday February 1

I’m pretty excited about this 28-day Raw Food Cleanse at Raw Food Rehab and would like to invite you to watch the video below (with Penni Shelton, RFR’s Director) and, if you like what you see/hear, then read what is under the video, check out the links, register with Raw Food Rehab, and then register for the Cleanse. It starts Monday, February 1st. The book– Raw Food Cleanse– which Penni has written, can be purchased here (Amazon) or here (BetterWorldBooks) or maybe in your local bookstore.

Today’s Special Edition is for the RFR members who are rallying for the 28 Day Total Reset Cleanse in February.

What Penni/RFR wants to do is help you formulate a game plan for reducing your toxic load and to help you take your raw food cleanse to a deeper level.

–>Before completing the following Questionnaire, etc., be sure to register at the Raw Food Rehab Community Site.

You can determine your personal state of affairs by answering the Life Cleanse Questionnaire (from The Raw Food Cleanse book by Penni.. This set of questions is a simple tool to help you get honest about where you are today and what areas of your life need more of your attention– print it out and fill it in before beginning the Cleanse–it’s yours.

In the questionnaire, we explore what is happening in your world in these important areas:

Diet
Physical
Environmental
Emotional
Spiritual
Lifestyle

On page 26 of Raw Food Cleanse, you’ll find the suggested Focus Foods List. Penni suggests you make a few copies of this list and highlight all of the foods that you know you like and also target a few new foods that you would like to try during the month of February.

**If you are new to the concept of cleansing or new to raw foods, Penni recommends you starting with the 3 Day Energy Boost Cleanse. Starting here will give you a wonderful opportunity to learn how your body will react to this process of freeing up energy for detox.

Beyond that, Penni recommends the 7 Day Rejuvenation Cleanse which is a wonderful protocol that can be consecutively for 28 days. This particular cleanse is ideal for anyone at any stage of the journey:

Upon Arising: 32 oz. pure water w/ fresh lemon or lime juice
Before Noon: 32 oz. of fresh juice or green smoothie &/or fresh seasonal fruit
Midday: Big, colorful salad w/ a delicious dressing &/or raw blended soup or a cleansing raw food entree
Snack: Allowed but only if you are truly hungry. This can be fruit, cut veggies w/ pate or dip, fresh juice or smoothie, herbal tea, elixir, smart cocktail or cup of balancing broth.
Evening: same as the midday meal.

You can find some wonderful recipes for Detox & Cleansing in the RFR Kitchen.

The 28 Day Total Reset Cleanse is designed for the individual who has the most amount of weight to release & for those with a background of compromised diet, unhealthy lifestyles and environmental exposures.

This cleanse is for those who have been doing this for awhile or who are really serious about taking charge of their health once & for all. This protocol starts off with 10 -14 days of liquids – think juice feast…. (juices, smoothies or blended soups/salads). The remaining days look a lot like the 7 Day Cleanse.

It is highly recommended that you read, Raw Food Cleanse, as it will be your faithful companion in the month of February and beyond. This book will help you elevate and align your thinking to that which promotes vibrant health and it will support you in your long term commitment to living your best life now. It also offers over 100 delicious recipes to insure your success. However, there IS enough information here at the Raw Food Rehab unit to make this a successful month for you even if you haven’t been able to get a copy of the book.

–>So… (1)SIGN UP FIRST AT THERAW FOOD REHABCOMMUNITY SITE and (2)THEN SIGN UP FOR THE 28-DAY CLEANSE)

Hunting Coconuts in Key West

Yesterday’s post was about finding the right pineapple and cutting it up properly– today we are looking at finding coconuts in an urban center (Key West, Florida) with the Giannis. Seems to be a tropical fruity theme here… could it be because we just got back from Maui? (man, miss that fresh-off-the-tree fruit!)

Hey, do you want to join the 28-day Raw Food Cleanse? Come on over to rawfoodrehab.com to sign up!

How To Cut Up A Pineapple Properly

Raw Food Leader, Frederic Patenaude writes: “I’ve been called “Pineapple Fred” for my love of pineapples!

Today I want to show you how to pick a good pineapple
, and how to cut it the right way. Most people get it all wrong when it comes to selecting a ripe pineapple and cutting it. (Hint: pulling the leaves on a pineapple has ZERO meaning on its ripeness). Watch out my new video and find out…

Frederic

PS: I’m currently giving away over $1200 worth of products on the raw food diet that took me 7 years to compile! To grab your package, go to:

How To Keep Your Pet’s Teeth & Gums Healthy & Save $

You can Actually Teach Your Pet with the Nice Clean Teeth to Smile!
While Dalmatians, Golden Retrievers, Mastiffs, and Samoyeds are known for their natural warm smiles, any dog can learn this trick. With some patience and love from you, your dog will be showing their pearly whites in no time.

1. Talk to your dog in a kind and loving manner. It takes a happy dog to be able to smile, the same as people. Therefore, it would help, while doing training that you are smiling too, although avoid baring your teeth when smiling, as dogs can see this as anger, aggression which could lead your dog to believe although you are petting it, it wouldn’t want to step out of line and smile.

2. Show them how to smile by using your thumb and index finger. Gently push each side of the dog’s mouth upwards, so that the teeth are showing. While you are doing this, say to the dog “oh, look you’re smiling.” Repeat this step, several times, a day, for about a week or so, depending on how fast they learn. Award the smile reward with treats and lots of affection.

3. Get your dog to smile by asking your dog “Can you smile for me?” You can even use the word mom or dad in place of the me word since many of us relate to our pets as being their parents.

Links for Christian Vegans, Vegetarians & Raw Foodies

tree with a fork for a trunkI don’t suggest for Christian “veggies” to isolate themselves from non-Christian vegetarians (or Christian non-vegetarians)– in fact there is a lot of value in “mingling” and, as we Christians would have it, “making friends for Jesus”.  However, it is also pleasant, learning enhancing and empowering to have fellowship with other Christians, and that is part of the reason for these links.  Sometimes the fellowship will be a “virtual” fellowship, sometimes you will actually be able to come together as a worship group or in a meet-up.   Please let me know of any fellowship groups or websites  you would like included here.

VEGAN & VEGETARIAN

Raw Emotional Eating with Angela Stokes

Filed under: 2010, Angela Stokes, Victoria Boutenko, emotional overeating, losing weight, raw food? — HealthiaCynthia @ 4:39 pm

Raw Emotions book coverIn the video below you will hear a very clear explanation of why we often end up overeating or eating when we are not hungry and how raw vegan eating can be helpful in stemming this (although it will not actually REMOVE our predisposition for emotional eating on its own).  Angela Stokes has an amazing story.  She lost 160# with a raw vegan lifestyle and experienced a remarkable shift in her spiritual and emotional life as well.

You can purchase the book Raw Emotions by clicking the image to the left.

A Manual for Life – God’s Way Part 2

Our Bible is a complete Manual for Life designed by God for our thriving. God wants us to be as well physically as spiritually. Rev. George Malkmus talks about how he came to discover this… “we don’t have to be sick”. This is a great message for the New Year. (p.s., there’s a surprise twist to Rev. Malkmus’s telling about the woman with arthritis).

85% Raw and “No Junk”= Rev. Malkmus at 73+ -God’s Way Part 1

This is Part 1 of a 21 video series of Rev. George Malkmus’s story about how he chose to “eat like Adam and Eve” (lots of fruits and vegetables, vegetable juices, Barley Greens, salads) and to reject the Standard American Diet. He was able to overcome colon cancer and a number of other health issues. For the last 29 years he has eaten “high raw” (about 85% raw and “no junk”) and is thrilled about his health now that he is well into his 70s.

Recipes for Life from God’s Garden

I am so excited to have received a new food prep book in the mail today to start out the New Year and to use in our Church’s Health Program when we introduce the 30 Days Raw movie and set up a group to study that.  The food prep book is RECIPES FOR LIFE from GOD’s GARDEN by Rhonda J. Malkmus.  What I love is that there is a 14-day sample menus — it’s a beautiful volume and I will be sure to share some of the recipes and other information from there.

Here is an interview that Kevin Gianni did with the Halleluiah Diet’s founder, Rev. George Malkmus.  You will notice that he is a bit “different” in the way he eats from others I’ve highlighted here– he includes some cooked foods (so people don’t feel so defeated when they “cheat”) and they are very big on fresh juices.   George Malkmus himself overcame colon cancer.  What do you think? (Happy New Year!)

Eating like Adam and Eve

Here is another post about Reverend George Malkmus, founder of the Hallelujah Diet, with Nightline Coverage of one of Rev. Malkmus’s presentation to a group. He was able to overcome colon cancer and other health issues.

I love the way Rev. Malkmus is able to take on the critics with their Scriptural “arguments”.  What do you think?
