I'm still dealing with otitis externa, so-called "swimmer's ear". I got myself a new allopathic doctor on the advice of my naturopath(??) so that I could perhaps get a referral to a dermotologist (naturopaths can't refer to specialist allopaths in this province). Let's see-- I went home with a salve, homeopathic drops and liver cleanse pills from the Naturopath. I tried the works for 3 weeks with no noticeable change... still lots of draining, itching, peeling and scabbing. I went to the doctor. She said there was no point in going to a dermatologist and prescribed antibiotic drops. She said that they would probably sting or create an itch for the first few days but would clear up the skin problems. Well, the draining DID stop within a week and I was happy with that (no popping and chafed soreness) but the itching never stopped and by the end of the week my ears were itching so bad I wanted to tear them off.
So, it's back to the drawing board.
I came across some great tips about using antimicrobials like raw garlic and oregano essential oil. Makes sense to me. Today I took about 8000 units of Vitamin C and infused organic oil of oregano into Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I've been juicing garlic and using that as well (but it stings way way too much to put on my ears I found out...) Our house smells like a big old salad or some great pasta sauce.
Another tack I am taking is to look at the possibility of thyroid malfunction (I sure do have a lot of the symptoms for that) and I am preparing to ask for some testing. This ebook by an Australian naturopath has been very helpful in explaining the testing and providing a good healthy, healing diet (and what foods to avoid, etc.) as well as explaining about the usual thyroid drugs and how the thyroid functions. I am registered for a series of free teleseminars with a very nice raw foodist naturopath. The first call was about candida overgrowth and leaky gut syndrome. If you can't make the calls (free) they can be heard (at least temporarily) afterwards online. I am recommending this to all the women I know.
