Silicon Dioxide (Sand) in YOUR Supplements?

I thought I was using the best supplements there were, but when I read the "non-medicinal" ingredients, I was surprised (but not shocked, I confess) to find that the following iffy ingredient was present there:
If a food powder dissolves pretty easily in liquid, chances are good that it comes with silicon dioxide. The problem with silicon dioxide is that if you inhale even very small quantities, over time, enough silicon dioxide dust can become lodged in your lungs or elsewhere in your respiratory tract to cause silicosis, bronchitis, or possibly even cancer. Silica doesn't dissolve over time, so the effects of silica exposure are cumulative. In my opinion, everyone should avoid silicon dioxide, but young children, the elderly, and people who have asthma or any other health challenge related to the respiratory tract should take extra care to avoid exposure.

Raw Apple-Nut Sweetie Pie

If you are looking for a healthy, yummy dessert, this is it!  In 12 Simple Ways to Supercharge Your Brain the author lists eating almonds and apples to sharpen your memory and increase the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine. 

Combine the following in your VitaMix and blend up, smooth or chunky.  Add a little water or apple juice if you need to smooth it:

  • 6-12 Medjool Dates (pits removed)
  • 1/2 C. raw organic Walnuts
  • 1/2 C. organic Almond Butter
  • 1 C. unsweetened organic grated Coconut
  • 4 Apples, chopped, no cores

Pour into pie plate and freeze until set.  Simple but delicious!

Can Christians do Meridian Tapping?

This question came up in a recent recorded session I was listening to by Margaret Lynch who helps people, with Emotional Freedom Technique tapping (i.e., meridian tapping), to overcome anxiety, fear, and other negative feelings about money-- negative feelings-- often because of debt-- negative feelings that prevent them from prospering financially. *Margaret is offering a deluxe hardcopy (or alternate digital) program that will show you how to intentionally "step into your life purpose". She uses meridian tapping to do this.

Rather than suggesting that a person can believe this or that, Margaret suggests that sometimes people are fearful of trying tapping because they see it as something that doesn't have a solid medical or Church-approved base. She points out that tapping is based on 'acupressure' points-- that people naturally massage those points to relieve pain, headaches, worry, etc.-- and that acupuncture, the use of needles on acupressure points (meridians) is respectfully used in American medicine. She further suggests that in the next five years we will observe a huge shift away from traditional "talk therapy" to the use of more and more "energy psychology" techniques like EFT and meridian tapping-- tapping is just so much faster than conventional "talk therapy" in achieving its goals.

Recipe for Tutti Frutti Orange Creme Smoothie Recipe

Oh yum, oh healthy yum-- here's my morning smoothie recipe today:
Tutti-Frutti Orange Creme Smoothie: Put the following in your Vitamix or other strong blender: *2 T. Hempseed Protein *2 T. Chia seed Gel *Filtered Water to soak Protein *1 Ripe Organic Banana *5 Pitted Medjool Dates *2 Organic Oranges, peeled & pipped *2 T. unsweetened organic coconut flakes *Small piece of organic orange peel (washed) (optional) *1 very ripe Avocado (optional) *1 small organic Apple, chopped and seeded *Water (2-3 Cups or more-- as you like) *Process and enjoy!!! This will satisfy your hunger and thirst, provide you with ample fibre, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, and assorted whole food vitamin and minerals... for added minerals you could add a 1/4 teaspoon of kelp flakes.

Your Child & Wheat Sensitivity

The following interesting article is found at the Gluten-Free Mall. Thousands of parents are finding that following a gluten-free and casein-free diet helps ease the symptoms of childhood Autism. What constitutes a gluten-free and casein-free diet? A gluten-free and casein-free diet is the elimination of gluten and casein, common gastrointestinal allergens, from the diet. Try cutting all wheat and milk products for a month and determine whether or not your child is: A) Responding better to his or her environment; B) Healthier look in the eyes; C) Rashes decrease and D) Less painful bloating and gas. Eliminating wheat (gluten) and milk (casein) from a child’s diet need not be an unpleasant experience, although most parents feel that a total diet change would be more complex, expensive, and stressful than filling a prescription. Therefore, they might see a diet change as a last resort for their child displaying Autism symptoms. A word to the wise here, the doctor could very easily miss certain symptoms, by not looking in the right places, and the child, the parents, as well as the physician, are running a risk by not first checking for food allergies and intolerance. The doctor might administer medicine to the child that was manufactured with gluten or casein in it, thereby exacerbating the situation with another source of the allergen. Worse, the doctor could prescribe either hyperactivity or psychotropic drugs which could further disable the child. It is important to know that many studies have surveyed children with autism and found very few who showed celiac disease symptoms. On the other hand, it is also important to acknowledge that many children, with symptoms amounting to Asperger’s Syndrome, which is not quite full-blown autism, will find relief from their symptoms--and even seemingly unrelated allergies--by changing to a gluten-free and casein-free diet. It need not be a torture process, either. Here at the Gluten-Free Mall, we offer plenty of goodies and snacks to warm the heart and bolster morale. Autism, or childhood autism, cannot be cured by a change in diet. However, many children diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome or autism might find much relief to their symptoms with a diet change. Have your child’s small intestine checked for food malabsorption. Some doctors are quicker to try to cure conditions with medicine rather than food-based remedies, and some parents are too. Remember, though, dealing with Autism is not a walk in the park. It is a lifelong journey for the child and their family. Take your time and patience with diagnosis and treatment. Sunday’s Lemon-Blueberry-Chia Smoothie Recipe…

This smoothie is so tasty and SOOO healthy-- I was looking for something with a little zing (lemons!), anti-oxidants (blueberries!), energy, protein, and omega3s (hempseed protein and chia seeds!), but also sweet (stevia drops!). This is a winning, thirst-quenching, energy-building, good-feeling-making smoothie. You can add other ingredients if you don't have the ones that I used (eg.,flaxseed for chia seeds) but I would really suggest you try this one if you have the means.... Add to the canister of the blender (I use a VitaMix) the following: ~1-2 Cups Frozen Wild or Organic Blueberries ~1/2 Cup Hempseed Protein ~1/4 Cup Chia Seed Gel (stir 1/4 Cup Chia seeds into a liter mason jar of water and stir-- let gel for about 15 minutes before using) ~1/4 Cup to 1 Cup Fresh squeezed Organic Lemon Juice ~Filtered Water to blend (as much as required) & Stevia drops to sweeten (I used about 1/2 teaspoon) Blend up and drink up and enjoy! p.s. More Ear Tales

I'm still dealing with otitis externa, so-called "swimmer's ear". I got myself a new allopathic doctor on the advice of my naturopath(??) so that I could perhaps get a referral to a dermotologist (naturopaths can't refer to specialist allopaths in this province). Let's see-- I went home with a salve, homeopathic drops and liver cleanse pills from the Naturopath. I tried the works for 3 weeks with no noticeable change... still lots of draining, itching, peeling and scabbing. I went to the doctor. She said there was no point in going to a dermatologist and prescribed antibiotic drops. She said that they would probably sting or create an itch for the first few days but would clear up the skin problems. Well, the draining DID stop within a week and I was happy with that (no popping and chafed soreness) but the itching never stopped and by the end of the week my ears were itching so bad I wanted to tear them off. So, it's back to the drawing board. I came across some great tips about using antimicrobials like raw garlic and oregano essential oil. Makes sense to me. Today I took about 8000 units of Vitamin C and infused organic oil of oregano into Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I've been juicing garlic and using that as well (but it stings way way too much to put on my ears I found out...) Our house smells like a big old salad or some great pasta sauce. Another tack I am taking is to look at the possibility of thyroid malfunction (I sure do have a lot of the symptoms for that) and I am preparing to ask for some testing. This ebook by an Australian naturopath has been very helpful in explaining the testing and providing a good healthy, healing diet (and what foods to avoid, etc.) as well as explaining about the usual thyroid drugs and how the thyroid functions. Raw Kids in the Kitchen

Finally, children, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about these things. Phil 4:8 NIV
Are you still harboring a lot of halloween loot in various niches and crannies of your house?
If so, have you noticed a difference in your children's behaviours and physical affects? Have they noticed a difference? (Some "new" behaviours and affects might be tummy aches, sniffles, sore throat, hyperactivity, whininess, aggression, toothache, flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, hives, itchiness, bladder infections, bad breath, pimples, cold sores, canker sores, fatigue, etc. etc.) All that sugar and other not-good-for-you stuff can cause havoc for the immune system too of course. Perhaps it is time to start reverting back (or introducing) a healthier way of eating. You don't have to go whole hog here, but nourish with some good fresh, ripe, raw veggies and fruits and trash the leftover sweeties (other sugar-infused holidays are coming up, nobody will suffer deprivation for long, right?) To make things more fun, here are a couple of links for delicious, de-yummy raw kid recipes to try... the first is from a raw uncookbook for kids 6-12 that you can watch by scrolling about 1/2 to 3/4 down the screen to the video that shows the two little girls who are helping their mom with the prep of some fantastic afterschool snacks-- orange nutballs. The other link is for a recipe for delicious 'strawberry ice creem' that is almost too tasty to be believable as a 'living' (healthy) food. Both recipes are sweet without any added processed sweeteners. I would really love to hear some comments about these lovely recipes if you don't mind letting me know what you think after you (and your kids?) try the recipes... notice how you feel providing truly healthy treats for your little ones! Mwahhhh
