Pregnant and Organic
Not me. Not me. But I am very interested in passing information along for women who ARE pregnant and want to give their little one the best start...
Here are what some other women suggest to do to avoid toxins and build natural health during their pregancy:
*Switch to non-toxic cleaning supplies
*Avoid any renos of your home (or workplace) during pregnancy because of the possibility of harmful dust (eg., containing lead, etc
- *Eat organic, and many pregnant women are choosing to eat raw vegan
- *Don't use any synthetic cosmetics or beauty products (with petrochemicals such as parabins in them)
- Drink Green Smoothies
- Go to bed before 10 pm and get at least 8 hours of sleep at night
- Exercise daily
- Seek a doula and/or midwife for a home birth away from the dangerous hospital toxicity
- Avoid luncheon meats and other processed foods
- Avoid foods with excito-toxins in their ingredients
- Get sunshine and fresh air every day if possible
- Go to http://www.mothering.com/ for piles of information about vaccination and nutrition to read up on in their forums
- If you cannot breastfeed your child, find a wet nurse. If you cannot find or afford a wet nurse, use raw-whole-organic-fresh cow's or goat's milk.
- Avoid formulas at ALL COSTS-- Formula, RTU or Powder, are harmful to infant development and growth; despite so-called expert affirmations to the contrary from either OB/GYN's or other mainstream MDs. Think of baby formula brands an a mere extension of harmful Big Pharma, because they ARE! Infant formulations are unsafe at any consumption level.
- Connect up with a local branch of La Leche League, www.lalecheleague.org
- Soon-to-be and nursing moms- you may want to consider cutting store bought milk from your diet altogether. There is a chance that the truck that transported the milk from the dairy to where it was bottled, had "moonlighted" jet fuel the night before. The residue can can get through to your unborn baby via the bloodstream, and through to nursing babies via the breastmilk. If you can find it, switch to raw milk from a reliable source (or learn about vegan alternatives--take the organic, whole food probiotic
- Say "No" to unnecessary Ultrasounds and other 'testing'. Do your research
- Don't use hair dyes or 'perms' or other chemical preparations for the hair

A Stranger
This song by Fernando Ortega was written as a response to people with Alzheimers who have been close to God all their lives until this devastating disease hit... something to reflect on. Can you imagine feeling like a stranger in your own home, your own body?

My Favorite Cleaner
<p>At a Christmas party last year there was a Silent Auction... the "cause" was one that I believed in, that is, my friend's desire to increase support for his disabled ski team. I bid and won a number of different items. By far the 'best deal' was a big tub of cleaning supplies.</p> <p><a href="http://tinyurl.com/greenclean"><img src="http://www.sxc.hu/pic/m/l/lo/lovu4ever/534081_silver_basin.jpg" alt=" " align="right" /></a> Now, I'm <em><strong>not</strong></em> famous as "she-who-cleans-all-the-time"-- you know what I mean, we all have a friend (at LEAST one) who is a 'clean freakkkk'. Well, that is NOT me. </p> <p>However....</p> <p>When I got this particular cleaning product I started to enjoy cleaning.</p> <p>You put a 1/4 of a teaspoon of the soap into a 16 ounce spray bottle and filled it up with water. I also added my favourite Young Living Oils (about 6 drops)-- generally I use the "tree" oils like <a href="http://diffusinglife.younglivingworld.com/hc"><strong>Cypress and Juniper.</strong></a> There is something so lovely about using a forest scent on my kitchen counter.</p> <p>Because this soap is so concentrated, it will actually last for up to 2 years of steady, all-purpose cleaning! I use it for windows, toilet bowls, sinks, floors, bathtubs, woodwork, furniture surfaces, counters, my stove and fridge, and apparently I could use it for dishwashing as well. I also have used it to remove pen marks off a cream-colored suede footstool (my little granddaughter is a maniac if she gets hold of a pen).</p> <p>There is another product too that smells like cherries... and I guess that's because there are actual cherries in it... that is a slightly more abrasive (without being abrasive) cleaner. </p> <p>All of this fun cleaning from a company that has been in business for over 50 years and has NEVER had a product recalled. Safe and effective AND environmentally-friendly. Go <a href="http://tinyurl.com/greenclean"><strong>here</strong></a> to learn more.</p> <div><a href="http://www.miniofficeoutlets.com/CYNTHIAZ"><img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a9/healthiacynthia/freedom_project_logo.jpg" alt="Freedom Project at http://www.miniofficeoutlets/CYNTHIAZ" width="480" height="68" align="middle" /></a></div>

Avoiding Strokes
<p>Hemorrhagic strokes account for only 15% of all strokes. It is ischemic strokes (those where the brain did not get enough blood flow due to blood vessels being partly or completely blocked) that account for the majority (85%) of all strokes.</p> <p>What is clearly evident is that <em><strong>PREVENTATIVE measures</strong></em> should be the number one prescription to avoid strokes.</p> <p><strong> Preventive measures include:</strong> a healthy diet (plant-based is my recommendation), maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly (at least 30 minutes a day every day), not smoking, and limiting or-- ideally-- eliminating alcohol consumption.</p> <p>We need to change society's perception that there is "a pill" for whatever ails them. As an RN, I have seen this attitude frequently. "Oh, I have something wrong with me? Well, there must be a pill for that, right?" <strong>There is no pill for simply taking care of yourself and living healthy.</strong> Just a commitment to optimal health.</p> <p> **This email was adapted from a message by "Liandra" on <a href="http://drmercola.com">Dr. Mercola's forum</a> site, May 9, 2007</p> <div><a href="http://www.miniofficeoutlets.com/CYNTHIAZ"><img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a9/healthiacynthia/freedom_project_logo.jpg" alt="Freedom Project at http://www.miniofficeoutlets/CYNTHIAZ" width="480" height="68" align="middle" /></a></div>

Where there’s Heat, There’re Burns…
Ah yes, Johnny Cash. I well remember this song being sung at a party made up of university kids, circa 1970. Only we stretched the lyrics to be "that ring o' farrrr.... that ring o' farr."
Twice in one day I burned myself... once on my thumb as I removed a hot item from the oven with inadequate protection, and once on the underside of my right forearm when I brushed up against something hot. Maybe I'm becoming so used to 'raw recipes' that I forget to be cautious? Or, maybe I'm becoming a little forgetful in general.... I'll go with option #1. hehehe.
The fact is that when you "eat raw" or "living" foods, you are less likely to be burned!
Here's today's recipe:
SEED CHEESE
Soak for 4 hours:
2 C. Sunflower seeds or 2 C. Pumpkin Seeds (or combination)
-Drain and Rinse with cold water
Put the Soaked, Rinsed Seeds in a **Vita-Mix with 2 C. cold Water, 1/2 Tsp. of Celtic Sea Salt, and, the probiotics from inside 3 capsules (not the capsules themselves) of bifidus bulgarious, S-thermaphullus, L-salivarius, or kyo-dolphus.
Secure the 2-piece lid and process the mixture from the lowest Variable Rate to the Highest, until liquified.
Pour into an 8 x 8 glass cake pan (or similar) and cover with a towel on your fridge top (or somewhere warm like that- 80 degrees) for 8 to 12 hours until it achieves the 'bite' (tartness) that you desire.
Cheese does become sharper with time.
Place it in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Take it out of the Fridge and transfer to clean cotton cheesecloth. (I bought mine in the Dollar Store and then washed it in a safe, "green" laundry soap in the washer on delicate setting to make sure there were not too many residual chemicals in it.)
Strain off the excess "whey" by gently squeezing the 'cheese bag' you have made. (I closed off the top with an elastic band and then tied a long new shoelace around it to suspend it from a hook over my sink).
Dry the cheeseball this way for about a day, the dryer the better.
Save in the fridge. It is at its best from day 4 to day 6. It will keep for several weeks and can be eaten on dehydrated flax crackers or as a snack side dish.
**Remember, if you use code #06-002685 when you buy your Vita-Mix, you will save up to $35 from the cost of shipping! Thank you!

Trouble Breathing?
<p>Our society is pretty interesting... on the one hand we have people who live in complete and total chaos in filthy conditions, often fed by mental illness or addiction, and on the other hand we have people driven to make everything immaculately clean, if that were possible. It is my guess that both extremes create illnes<a href="http://tinyurl.com/greenclean"><img src="http://www.sxc.hu/pic/m/d/da/dawnallynn/509289_working_to_breathe.jpg" alt=" " width="199" height="300" align="right" /></a>s.</p> <p>Of course, the petro-chemical companies hawk to both of these groups. If you are tired or lazy, you need only spray something around and it apparently absorbs all the germs in the place without any real cleaning necessary. Or, if you are really diligent, you can get out a pail and pour in all kinds of really "powerful" chemicals to make a brew that no bacteria (good, bad or indifferent) could survive.</p> <p>Either way you are playing with "really powerful chemicals" and doing your lungs no favours. For example, when <strong>bleach and ammonia</strong> are mixed together, they create a gas called c<strong>hloramine</strong>. When it enters your body through your nose or skin it releases <strong>hydrochloric acid</strong> (now, you remember that one from your Chemistry class, right?), <strong>ammonia</strong>, and <strong>oxygen free radicals </strong>right into the lungs. Lung inflammation (a burning sensation) and a build-up of fluids (the body's attempt to dilute the strong chemicals??) will result in obstruction of the airways. Think of that BEFORE the next time you use something harsh to clean out your oven or sink or toilet bowl or BBQ grill. </p> <p><strong>I personally don't think it is worth it to have a spic-n-span clean house but have my lungs shot before I get to enjoy my grandkids growing up... what about you?</strong></p> <p>This information comes from <em>The New England Journal of Medicine</em> 1999;341:848-849.</p> <p>I use<a href="http://tinyurl.com/greenclean"><strong> safe and effective cleaners</strong></a> from a company that has NEVER had a product recall in the 52 years they've been in business. </p> <div><a href="http://www.miniofficeoutlets.com/CYNTHIAZ"><img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a9/healthiacynthia/freedom_project_logo.jpg" alt="Freedom Project at http://www.miniofficeoutlets/CYNTHIAZ" width="480" height="68" align="middle" /></a></div>
