Reasons for a Raw Lifestyle

What are some of the reasons that should motivate you to eat a raw food diet? In this article, I will look at WHY someone should consider a raw food diet and how you could organize a healthy raw food menu plan. The raw food diet, as generally understood, consists of eating only raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and all of their possible variations (juices, salads, smoothies, etc.) That’s the “raw-foodist” path or the 100% raw diet way of life. But there are many other combinations possible for anyone wishing to benefit from raw foods. So how do people eat a raw food diet? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons: Detox DietAs a detox or weight loss program — The first way to use the power of raw foods is in the form of a “detox” program, which means that for a specific number of days (usually 7 or 30 days, or several month), a person will consume 100% raw foods (or close to it), in order to reach a specific goal, usually to lose a certain amount of weight. If you’d like to know more about this approach, you may refer to my ebook “The 21 Best Detox Diets” which lists several types of raw food detox diets you can follow. When you follow that path, you don’t have to “commit” to anything, except for the duration of the program. That makes it a lot easier on your motivation and you can still achieve great results that way. As a way of life or “lifestyle” — This is how I was attracted to the raw food diet in the first place: as a way of life. I was attracted to the “philosophy” of the raw food diet more than the actual health benefits. Many people choose to eat raw for the wonderful health benefits, but also for the entire lifestyle of the raw foodist. They’ll organize their social events around “raw-food potlucks” and other meetings, they’ll participate in “raw food” gatherings, they’ll subscribe to magazine and meet other people interested in this. We’ve seen many “raw food” marriages and even “raw food” babies from couples both interested in the raw lifestyle. At this level, you may not necessarily eat 100% raw, but instead eat the proportion of raw foods that feels right for you. You’re not just interested in nutrition, but in many other aspects of healthful living, such as fitness, spirituality, financial independence, and others. You recognize that not one aspect is necessarily more important than others, but that you have to pay attention to all aspects if you want to reach your goals. As a tool for overcoming illness — A lot of people get attracted to the raw food diet because they think it will “cure” such and such health problem. My views on this is that the raw food diet doesn’t in itself “cure” anything, as only your self-healing body has that ability. However, the value of the raw food diet is that it places less strain on the digestive system, and brings valuable vitamins and nutrients, in greater quantities than in a Standard American diet. It also eliminates most of the potential, disease causing foods of civilizations, such as industrial foods, refined sugars and grains junk foods, and commercial animal products. As an improvement on a good diet — You don’t have to be a “raw-foodist” to benefit from raw foods. You can eat *more* raw! Replace your breakfast with a raw smoothie. Mesothelioma Information

A dear friend of ours is dying of a rare cancer that is most common among people who have been exposed to asbestos. He has no recollection of living in a house that was insulated with asbestos, or of working around it. He has tried many of the hundreds (maybe thousands) of suggestions that well-meaning friends and family have offered. For a while he used our juicer, and I believe that his wife (not him though) continues to make a Green Smoothie for consumption daily. Today I was doing a little idle surfing and came across no less than 10 blogs dedicated to Mesothelioma! I'm sure there are more too. A good blog will generally include comprehensive web research that will result in your being able to access information more quickly than if you just do the general google routine. In ONE specifically dedicated "health" blog you can generally find information about orthodox AND alternative/complementary methods for overcoming a dis-ease or illness. Quite often the blog author has had some near experience with the dis-ease and wants to share their successes and experiences with others so afflicted. In the blog Mesothelioma Portal, for example, there is a post about the very interesting writer, Paul Kraus, who recently celebrated ten years after a diagnosis of Mesothelioma (at which time-- in 1997-- he was told he had only months to live). He has written a number of books about his struggles and his ultimate successes.

NOOOO Mammmmmogrammmms Pleeeeeeeez

I really hate mammograms, and for the record, haven't had one for several years.  Here is something I took from the Wild Harvest newsgroup (Young Living Oils) posted on October 2nd by Jeff Kaplan, a RMT, RN and Essential Oils Distributor/User.  He is wise and hilarious: Favor to ask, it only takes a minute.... Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle). On the other hand, why would you want to donate to a procedure that CAUSES breast cancer? Radiation causes the genes in the breast tissue to mutate. Mutations are what happens when the DNA is changed. Cancer cells are from abnormal cells that have had their DNA mutated. Mutations are caused by a lack of oxgyen, and radiation. Fruit fly mutations are studied extensively. Fruit fly mutations are caused by radiation. Compare a mammogram to a thermogram Mammograms involve putting delicate breast tissue under 50 psi, and can spread an existing tumor. If you have ever thought about getting your breasts reshaped into pancakes, this is the way to go. Thermograms utilize healing far infrared light, and can detect breast tumors much earlier than a mammogram, without squeezing them like a vice. They are far safer, and more effective at detection. Far infrared radiation is also healing to the body-the very opposite of the radiation used in a mammogram clinic. This doesn't cost you a thing. [HealthiaCynthia's note: In Canada, where thermography is not presently widely available-- probably because the mammographers are still paying off their expensive old machines-- there is a cost for a thermogram... but it is quite reasonable and well worth it!] Why go to the clinic and get it done free? See if your toolbox has a pair of vice grips and use those for free-or better yet, see if your husband has a workbench with a built in vice. This will work very well. You can stay home, and not have to spend the time, or gas money, and you can do it in the privacy of your own home, or condo, or apt. For effect, you can shine a flashlight on your breasts. This is much safer than having a nurse direct radiation at your them. Their corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising. Idea! Cut down on corporate advertising by cutting down on mammograms! Mammograms are another screening procedure, to get breast cancer diagnosed woman, into the medical merry go round of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. This is major megabucks for the medical people. Cancer drugs, ie. anti-neoplastics, cost tens of thousands. They are like mustard gas which was used in WWI. This is not moral, its not Biblical, its not ethical, and its not good for your body. It is only good for the profits of the drug companies, and hospitals. I say, Stay away from people in white, who are looking to chop off, slice off, or cut off your breasts. Keep your breasts! God gave them to you for a reason-that little baby needs them. You need them. Your husband needs them. Breast cancer can also be completely cleared up, without surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Instead, consider making your whole body healthier, by eating healthier. Try not to be bamboozled into eating junk food full of chemicals, and taking drugs, drugs, drugs. Try not to be roped into slathering sunscreen on your body, that is full of chemicals. Try not to use underarm anti -perspirants that are loaded with toxic aluminum, and which are a major cause of breast tumors. Use nontoxic underarm deodorants instead. You can find them. Well, there is plenty of research to show that wearing a bra too much, and too often, besides one that is too tight, constricts circulation. It cuts off blood supply, thereby cutting off oxgyen supply to your breasts. Start making it a habit to take off your bra as soon as you get home from work. Make sure the kids aren't standing there in front of you. In addition, use Young Living Essential Oils on your breast/chest, instead of using the above named chemicals! Are Some Raw Foods Toxic?

I ran across this blog and thought that it was significant for raw foodists to know about: Are there some fruits and vegetables you should avoid, or are they all good for you? The surprising answer is that some vegetables are actually toxic. One of them is buckwheat sprouts. In the article below, you’ll understand why buckwheat sprouts should be avoided. Then, I’ll review some other fruits and vegetables we should watch for.
Buckwheat SproutsAre Buckwheat Greens Toxic? By Gilles Arbour The surprising answer is a clear and unequivocal YES. Due to the growing popularity of sprouts, in general, and a widespread ignorance as to the toxic dangers posed by buckwheat greens, specifically, many people are today suffering unnecessarily. The basic problem with buckwheat greens is that they contain fagopyrin, a naturally occurring substance in the buckwheat plant. When ingested in sufficient quantity, fagopyrin is known to cause the skin of animals and people to become phototoxic, which is to say hypersensitive to sunlight. This condition, specifically known as fagopyrism, occurs when the ingested fagopyrin accumulates under the skin and is subsequently activated by sunlight, resulting in a toxic reaction within the skin. Typically, exposed areas of skin turn pink or red within minutes and a strong burning sensation accompanies the reaction. Within a few hours, the exposed areas usually appear to return to normal, however, continue to remain ultra-sensitive to cold water, hot water, and to friction. This sensitivity can last for days. In addition to the burning sensation, people suffering from fagopyrism often complain of feeling a numb, fuzzy, and buzzing impression when they scratch or inadvertently hit their hands on something. Sufferers also report that their hands feel painfully cold when placed in cold water or when in contact with a cold object, even if only for a few seconds. Some have had numbing, itching, and tickling on the face, nose, and ears after sun exposure thus causing a desire to scratch the skin, thereby worsening the condition. The eyes may also become hypersensitive to light. If a large enough portion of the skin is exposed, one may experience dizziness. If a person is forced to remain in the sun for a long period of time, the skin may swell up and remain abnormal for up to several days. Other “Dangerous” Raw Foods Generally, fruits are not to be feared. They are much less likely to contain toxic components. We have to be careful with some vegetables, and also some rare fruits, including: Spinach- Spinach & Other Greens Rich In Oxalic Acids — Spinach is a healthy food, but it contains a good quantity of oxalic acid. Oxalic acid, a chemical found in many plants. This substance binds with calcium to form calcium oxalate, an insoluble salt. Too much oxalic acid, in spinach for example, can be detrimental. Here’s a useful table:
HIGH OXALIC ACID CONTENT (Be careful with those, don’t eat in large quantities): Lambsquarters, beet leaves, purslane leaves, spinach, swiss chard (leaves & stalks), rhubarb, parsley, amaranth leaves, sorrel. LOW OXALIC ACID CONTENT: Dandelion greens, most fruits, kale, watercress, escarole, mustard greens, turnip greens, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, asparagus, cabbage, and most greens not mentioned.
Poison Mushrooms- Wild Mushrooms — It goes without saying that some wild mushrooms are extremely toxic. - Acidic Fruits — Acidic fruits are not “toxic” per say, but the high acidity can be a problem when those fruits are consumed regularly and in large quantities. The problems come from the fact that the fruits are picked too green, and therefore contain much more acidity than they would if they had ripened on the plant. Some foods to watch out for include: - Oranges - Pineapple - Tomatoes (yes!, a lot of people eat too many of those!) - Grapefruit - Lemons It’s not a good idea to eat lemons, as some people do, or drink liters of freshly-squeezed orange juice. The best way to consume these fruits are as part of a smoothie or salad that includes other, less acidic fruits (such as pears, apples, etc.) - Strong Herbs — Typically, anything that tastes bitter or strong has some toxin in it. If you can’t eat it on its own, you should watch out and only use a little. - Wild Greens — There’s a lot of tasty wild greens out there, but I wouldn’t recommend to pick them in massive quantities and adding them to your smoothies. These greens are much too strong to be eaten that way. Only use the edible varities and only have a small quantity at a time. That covers it… Don’t be “afraid” of fruits and vegetables.
