Our adult son Conrad lives with us. He has done a lot of reading, internet and other research around growing bio-organically. Our backyard garden is far from being the tidy, weed-free little oasis in the lawn that I was brought up to regard as a veggie garden. Instead, there are several long crescent shaped mounds that have been planted up with tall rye grass, crimson clover, red and sweet clover, and other “ground covers”. He buried some trees that were taken down to make the mound shapes, and used cardboard cartons as well– no plastics, because as Victoria Boutenko says, plastics and cement actually permanently kill any soil microbes under them… the soil becomes dead…. and the idea with bio-organics is to “heal” (augment with living matter and processes) the land.
So, initially, I admit that I was a little frustrated and upset by what I saw as quite a mess. But as the “ground cover” grew, the effect became quite beautiful, within a different paradigm.
To plant his seedlings, Conrad just pulled out some of the rye in different spots and put in the plug. We call it “Conrad s Treasure Trove”. Happily nestled in the tangle of growth are: cucumbers (2 different kinds), lots of beautiful pod peas with their mauve and purple sweet pea-like blooms, lettuces, kale, herbs, celery, sunflowers, other flowers, fava beans (oh, I think they might also be part of the ground cover), and strawberries. He has little tangle gardens growing around the base of the grapes, old plum and apple trees, and hiding smaller, newer shrubs and new trees such as a pear tree (treelet?), blueberry bushes, raspberries, blackberries, and an experimental small group of goji berry bushes.
Most of our yard is given over to unattractive grass septic drainage field… basically, a place for our dog to sunbathe, but not at all accommodating to the gardening we hope to do when the sewer comes in (if it ever does– the most frustrating bureaucratic process we have come across living here in rural Courtenay).
Here are some pictures of this June garden of Conrad:

Is there actually a way to prevent yourself from getting cancer? I mean, aren’t we supposed to be sharing our regular body cells with toxic cancer cells already? And aren’t these cancer cells supposed to just be waiting for an opportune moment to explode into our lives? If you looked at my extended and in-law family, you would probably agree with that… both of my grannies died with cancer (one was 81, the other was 89) that sneaked up on them in their later years. An uncle on each side of my family died with colon cancer, and one uncle spent time having various treatments to defer the same vicious snarly. My mother-in-law died with colon cancer (at age 75) and my own mother, who just passed away at the end of March, had an undiagnosed “mass” in her abdomen (that she argued was just the scar tissue from having her legs stripped in the 50s– we’ll never know). My sister-in-law recently underwent mastectomy in response to a diagnosis of breast cancer. Appears likely that cancer will get me in the end. However……
Victoria Boutenko and many, many other advocates of nutritional and lifestyle dis-ease prevention, say that it IS possible to prevent cancer, and even to reverse it.
If your body is too acidic as a result of consuming acid- forming foods, high fat, mucus-forming foods, and toxic food residues, disease and infections multiply. This is true in cases of arthritis, rheumatic situations, and cancer, to name a few of the “big seven killers“.
There must be alkaline in order to build an alkaline reserve for acid-forming conditions such as stress, lack of exercise, or poor nutritional intake.
And how should we eat to get that alkaline balance? Well, alkaline-forming foods, that’s what….
And what are they? Typically, they are most likely to support the formation of alkalinity in our bodies if they come from the following food groups:
Fruits
Vegetables
Sprouts
Cereal grasses
Herbs
If you want to get the most from the above endorsed list, you will eat them as close to their natural state as possible (i.e., “raw”). If you want to get the most minerals from the grasses and herbs (also known as “greens”) you will need to break down the tough, protective cell membranes. Because we don’t have the jaw power or grinding teeth of the chimpanzee, it is necessary to use a heavy-duty blender and to rotate the use of the various ‘greens’ to avoid toxicity build-up. A Vita-Mix is a real boon to longevity, while a juicer might not be that useful over time (because juicing folks generally get a big whack of sugars and very little sugar-modifying fibre (quite often the veggie and fruit fibre left over after juicing is dumped into the compost pile). A quart and a half to two quarts of Green Smoothie each day goes a long way to satisfying the nutritional requirements for increasing your alkaline levels.
Practice a positive, hopeful lifestyle as well as eating a healthy, plant-based diet and exercising will certainly help.
If you want to monitor your alkalinity, it is a good idea to get some little litmus test strips. The kind that we have are handy-dandy. Not to be too graphic here (but clear enough so that you get the picture), you just swish the test end of strip in your urine for about 2 seconds and “read” the colour. Green means that your body is balancing on the side of alkalinity… anything that is not green (or blue-green) means that you need to increase the alkaline-producing foods and behaviours and decrease/eliminate the acid-forming foods and behaviours in your life (example: stress, sugars, chocolate, meat, over-exercising, heavily-processed foods, TV newscasts, too many cooked and baked grain products, fermented foods, etc.). Victoria Boutenko suggests that you don’t try to change everything overnight (my usual preferred means of self-sabotage) but make small adjustments to your eating, learning and other lifestyle habits.
A good suggestion is to contract with yourself to keep a journal for a period of time– say a month– listing what you are ‘trying’ and how it affects your life. Do you sleep more deeply and feel more refreshed when you eat more greens in a day? Do you sleep less well when you eat something (like a can of beans) that you haven’t had for a while?
Victoria suggests that fresh greens are “the real thing”, but many people find that their dry supplement greens do help in keeping them healthy. As well, NingXia Red antioxidant drink is formulated with several organic fruits and orange and lemon essential oils to encourage a high alkalinity level and greater health. The Young Living essential oil supplement, Alkalime, contains ingredients that help to raise the alkaline environment and to stave off yeast infections, etc.
So, it does sound like some changes need to be made, but, yes, preventing the Big C is possible!

Apparently June-uary is what we are experiencing… below average cool weather. It was sunny today, but there was a chilly wind. I prefer it to the kind of hot weather we would get back in Saskatoon…. sometimes you couldn't sleep all night because it was so hot and there was no cross current.
To get a good sleep here I do a couple of things… I might jump on the rebounder, and most nights I have the window open all night. This works for me.
Eating raw vegan is also helpful! If you want some help getting started eating more raw fruits and veggies, check this .

I have been an affiliate for a few years. As I have said elsewhere, there are some months when I work hard (about an hour a day) on my affiliate accounts and actually make some cash, and there are many months when I pay them no mind at all, and sometimes someone somewhere unknown– out there in Internetland– makes a surprise purchase… it’s like magic.
But now I am planning to become more organized in what I do. This is about my tenth year of playing on the Internet. I’m getting quite bored with the process of not actually ‘going anywhere’.
And, I believe that Frederic Patenaude will be the team leader to give me the boost that I’ve been looking for in multiple affiliate programs over the years.
Why?
Because Frederic is offering products that I believe are well-researched, life enhancing, easily accessible, and have a broad appeal among health-seeking adults everywhere.
Frederic is a thirty-something fella from Montreal who has hung with and/or interviewed most of today’s living food gurus: Dr. Doug Graham, Tanya Kay, Victoria Boutenko, to name just a few. He’s multi-lingual and has been an excellent student of both internet marketing and goal-setting coaching technique.
He’s genuine and sincere, as well. I know that we like to think that is true of all the people we admire, but unless you just popped out of the life-chute, you know that the case is often that our “heros” turn out to be at least somewhat charlatan and corrupt…. particularly on the internet.
Now, I don’t idolize Frederic, and I am sure he has some nasty habits and sins as we all do, but so far, I get a good sense of his being a young man of integrity. I know from past experience on his very innovative forum that he has a wide attraction for women particularly. Maybe it is his respectful references to his Mom (he has offered her very delicious salad dressing) and we all know now that the old jibe of “Mama’s Boy” was one of those yucky phobic responses engendered by macho men who were afraid of empowerment of any women– even their own mothers, daughters, and especially wives– because, somehow, in their twisted thinking, if women were lauded with dignity and acknowledgement for their gifts, it somehow diminished them (the insecure men). Now, that was one long rambly sentence, and I do hope you know what I was trying to say: that Fred is a guy who really appreciates women! Some of his mentors are female, and his affiliate business manager is a woman. I like that in a man.
So, in my estimation, this all adds up to a very appealing business offer. We have a savvy, healthy, goal-directed, communicative, young (Canadian) guy who wants to be in business with us. He offers a great product line of informational ebooks and other items that instruct in, and support, the attainment of optimal health in a natural, simpler way that bypasses the usual high pressure tactics to keep the consumer freight train on its acid-producing rails.
So, when Fred says that we can make $500- $5000 a month as an affiliate for his product line, with training from him, I believe him.
So, what’s the catch, you ask? Do you have to put out $50-$400 for a ’start-up kit’? Nope. Do you have to be a computer genius to be an affiliate? Nope. Do you need to work somewhere in a little cubicle with other folks, kind of like a clutch of phone solicitors? Nope. Do you have to spend hours of time figuring things out and readjusting stuff every day? Nope.
The reality is that you will need to educate yourself around what an “affiliate” is. You will probably benefit from knowing about Frederic’s products– maybe buying a couple to try out so you know what you are selling– but at least reading his blogs, free e-zine articles, and the like, as well as signing up for a free newsletter and, of course, signing on as an Affiliate is the starting place.
But hold everything! Before you get all tied in knots about what you must and can and couldn’t possibly do/learn/achieve, please know that if you sign on by clicking one of the links in this blog, you are signing up in the same team as I, and I pledge to provide free ongoing support and guidance for you.
We will both attend whatever free teleclasses Frederic offers to train us affiliates, and then you and I will break down what we learn from the Maestro into portions that we can absorb and use.
It will be fun!
And lucrative!
So, sign up now!
